Jeren's Weyr

Jeren's Weyr

Jeren

Appearance: He is about 5'8" and is muscular. He has green eys and short sandy brown hair. He is handsome but not really a head-turner. Jeren often doesn't realize the effect he has on some girls and wonders why they always seem to find excuses to visit him. He has a scholarly look about him that sometimes puts people off, but he enjoys talking.

Personality: Jeren is kind and serious. He likes to read and learn about all kinds of things and has a small study in his weyr. He spends most of his time there. He can be funny and has a great sense of humor. He loves puns and his favorite contest is a pun war. He usually wins unless he goes up against Bri'onie. She loves puns as much as he does and can usually match Jeren pun for pun. Jeren loves to explore and find new places. He usually meets tribes of people for the first time and talks them into trading with others. Jeren is not very promiscuous, having had only one lover before Bri'onie. He thinks that relationships are very important and would never have a one-night-stand. Jeren enjoys discussing things with people and can usually be found talking with someone in the weyr.

Jeren paced back and forth as he considered the new information he'd read from his book. The book was on dragons and their colors. The author was a woman from Dragonhope Weyr, named Bri'onie. In it, she explained that the personality of a candidate may have an impact on what dragon that candidate Impresses. Jeren smiled and thought back to when he met the short, russet-haired woman. She had Searched him and brought him to Dragonhope. When Jeren picked up his book from the crafter, he and Bri'onie had a spirited discussion about it until someone called her away.

Jeren shook his head and paced to the large bookcase that stood in one corner of his room. He gently placed the book back on the shelf and gave it a fond pat before returning to clean out his weyr. He hoped to Impress a dragon soon, at Dragonhope. Swiftly, Jeren scraped much of the ice from the ground in the weyr. He cleaned the snow and ice chips off the couch his hopefully-soon-dragon would occupy. Then, he made sure that the well where he got his water from was still unfrozen. Finally throwing a few blankets from his own bed onto the couch, Jeren sat down and surveyed his work. He let himself slip into memory as he stared around the room.

Jeren was walking up the steps to the small house he lived in with his three siblings and father. His older sister, Lanie, was waiting for him at the top of the steps. She was tapping her foot impatiently and had her arms crossed over her chest. Jeren smiled, thinking of the other times he had seen her like this.

"Where have you been, Jeren?" she asked imperiously. "You should have been home an hour ago." Jeren looked tiredly up at her and walked into the house saying, "Master Shil wanted me to stay at the stables a few extra hours to clean up after the animals. He and I had just given most of them baths and they were making a mess of their pens by rubbing on the walls." Jeren looked up as his father clomped into view. Kian worked in a blacksmith shop and looked very intimadating. He was very kind, however, and loved his family very much.

"What did Master Shil have you doing today, Jeren?" Kian asked, clapping his son on the shoulder. Jeren shrugged and said, "Cleaning, cleaning, and more cleaning. Also, bathing." Kian laughed and led Jeren into the kitchen where Tonep and Waes, the twins, were busy making bread. Lanie was the oldest in the family, being 23, and the twins were the middle children. Tonep was older than her brother Waes by and hour. Both were older than Jeren by two years, being 21. Jeren was the baby of the family at 19 and had the fewest memories of their mother, Yuhenla. She died of an illness when Jeren was five.

Waes handed Jeren a bowl of stew and Jeren gratefully sat at the table and ate it. He listened to the familiar banter among his family and relaxed. As he ate, Jeren realized that he was very sore. He had just decided to go soak in hot water when the family heard a muffled thump outside. The others ran quickly outside while Jeren followed as quickly as he could. In front of his house, a magnificent green dragon sat preening herself. Jeren finally tore his gaze away from the emerald dragon when a small woman walked up the steps to stand in front of him.

"What's your name?" she asked kindly. Jeren tried speaking a few times, but he was so tongue-tied nothing came out. The dragonrider's smile grew wider as she watched Jeren try to speak.
"Don't worry. I was speechless when I saw a Searchdragon land outside my house, too. And I was even younger than you are," she said. Jeren finally got his name out and was rewarded by a grin from his siblings. The dragonrider shook his hand and replied, "I'm Bri'onie and this is Praeth. She says that you are dragonrider material. Would you like to come be a candidate?"

Jeren stared, dumbfounded, at the small woman in front of him. Him, a candidate! Jeren nodded and Bri'onie clapped him on the back.
"Good. You need to pack some stuff and say good-bye to your family. Then, we'll leave." Jeren ran back into the house to grab some clothing. He spent a few minutes saying good-bye to his family individually. He was surprised to see tears glinting in Lanie and Kian's eyes. He promised his family that he would be back as soon as he bonded with a dragon. Then, following Bri'onie, he mounted Praeth.

A thump and quick bootsteps interrupted Jeren's reverie. He looked up to see his lover, Bri'onie come in. She smiled and asked, "Whatcha been thinking about?" Jeren grinned back and replied, "The day we met. We've come a long way since you Searched me." Bri'onie took off her heavy fur coat and gave Jeren a hug and kiss.
"Just think, soon you'll be standing on the Sands," she said. Both looked up when Praeth walked in the weyr to examine the couch for Jeren's soon-to-be dragon. Bri'onie's eyes got a far-off look in them as Praeth talked to her. Then, Praeth turned to Jeren and nuzzled him.

"She says the weyr looks good. She hopes you will Impress soon," Bri'onie told Jeren. Jeren hugged her close in excitement. He could hardly wait to Impress a dragon. He thought of all the unexplored places in the world and he hoped that the dragon would like to explore, too. He smiled as he thought of the four of them camping out somewhere. Jeren also hoped the dragon liked jokes because he and Bri'onie both had a strong sense of humor and love of puns. Suddenly, his stomach growled. Bri'onie laughed and said, "Did you forget to eat again? All that time spent reading is going to starve you!" Jeren grinned sheepishly and led the way to the kitchens to get some much-needed lunch.

The day of Hatching!
