RoadBlasters

RoadBlasters by Tengen
Players: 1
Genre: Car-shooter
Levels: 100+
YOR: 1990

In the distant future the ultimate race will occur. Half race and half battle.

Grab the controls and accelerate to reach the rally points. Dodge mines and toxic spills, blast Rat Jeeps and Darting cycles. Acquire weapons like Cruise Missles and U.Z. Cannons. Explore 50 levels of mind-blowing authentic arcade action!

A few of you maybe aware that RoadBlasters was first an arcade game. I've played the arcade version and frankly, I enjoyed the Lynx version better. They both look identical, but obviously the control is different. But despite the smaller screen, I like the Lynx version.

Gameplay and graphically wise, they're identical. The Lynx easily captures the arcade, and lucky for us, we don't need to put in a quarter when you're out of gas, heh, heh.

What you do in the game is drive along a road, and blow everything up in sight. Your car is equipped with two machine guns, and you can gain special weapons, such as cruise missles, U.Z. Cannons, a nitro injector or an invincible shield. These help out a lot, because the road can get quite crowded at times. You have to be careful though, since there are plenty of things that shoot at you and there are hazards on the road, such as oil slicks and mines. You have a mine alert to let you know when mines are headed your way.

You have unlimited lives, so dying usually isn't a problem. Your game is over however, if you run out of gas. Occasionally you'll pick up green or red orbs on the road which will give you extra gas to use(sort of like Hydra).

There is a lot of voice in the game. It's kind of hard to hear what they're saying unless you have headphones on. There is no in-game music, but you usually don't notice until the levels over and a little track starts playing.

Control is one thing that makes the Lynx version better I think. It's really good, not perfect, but good.

RoadBlasters is a fun game to play. Not as great as BattleWheels, but it's fun in it's own way. It's a little easy at times though. But it's a worthy game to add to your Lynx collection. If you loved the arcade, you'll love the Lynx version!
The Ratings-

Control- A+ - Better than the arcade!

Fun Factor- A- - If you like blowing cars and other things up, you'll love RoadBlasters!
