How fitting. The first race after Earnhardt's death had to be postponed due to rain. Even the Heavens mourn.

Dale Earnhardt died yesterday. Another hero, another legend in his own time, gone, leaving a void to be filled by the overpaid pansies who call themselves athletes. People like that aren't supposed to die. People I like aren't supposed to die! But obviously my opinion didn't count for much with the big guy upstairs. If he's there that is. It's ironic though. The man known as the Intimidator, the Man in Black, the Hunter, died protecting the lead for either his son or his teammate. At least it wasn't in vain. His teammate Michael Waltrip won his first race in 463 attempts, and his son came in second. Earnhardt was to NASCAR what Jordan was to basketball, what Gretzky was to hockey, what Tiger Woods is to golf. And now he's gone. It won't be the same.

Arg. Two exams in two days. Not as bad as it could be, but I didn't study at all for either of them. Here's hoping that my guessing skills haven't lost their edge.

If I could kill anyone and get away with it, would I do it? Yes, I do believe so.

The upcoming debut of the XFL made me stop and think about why a new league thought it would be embraced by longtime football fans, accustomed to the execution offered by the NFL. Is there something lacking in the NFL? And after a little while, I realized that there was. What is it you ask? Quite simply, free agency. Now, players hop from team to team, reducing themselves to guns for hire to the highest bidder. There is no more team loyalty, playing out your career with one team, and saddest of all, no more dynasties.Yes, I know, the whole idea of free agency was to create parity in the NFL, to make it possible for small market teams to compete. And to give credit where credit is due, it has worked. But perhaps it's worked too well. Answer me this, over the past five years, which NFL team is the best? Difficult question isn't it? Over that five year span, four different teams have won the superbowl. The NFC has won two of the superbowls, the AFC has won the other three. The only team to repeat as champions were the Denver Broncos in 1996-1997 and 1997-1998. And that was mostly thanks to the superb play of John Elway. Since then they've struggled to win in a consistent manner. So you see, with players jumping ship each season, your favorite team may win it all one season, and next year fail to make the playoffs. The unsatiable greed of the players has stolen the game I love. Now a new question. Can the XFL give it back to me?
