Where the Strange just get stranger

The last unicorn

Skies of blackness on very dark nights
Where scores of dragons take their flights
Soaring high above a make-believe land
Which exists only in the times of sand
A flat, floating world, with far-off hills
Villages of straw and scattered windmills
Picturesque forests with early morning mist
And echoes of rumours of will o'th wisp
Amongst the scented roses and fireflies
Is where the last unicorn solomly lyes
it is dying and the magic is flowing away
Once it is dead, there will be no more day
The sun at midday is already a deep red
And all the creatures know they will soon be dead.

In the days of old, when the sun was yellow
Life was abundant, the atmosphere was mellow
Herds of unicorns roamed far off fields
Harvests were full in abundant yields
A group of hunters noticed the unicorns' power
Ape-like creatures who made animals cower
They wanted that magic locked in that horn
Fifty unicorns were dead by the next morn
On this new magic the creatures thrived
Whilst the poor unicorns struggled to survive
Societies were built on this new power
And high rise buildings that on the forest, tower,
A section of these apes who protected the horns
Discovered a universal knowledge that warns
Of the destruction of the planet, it said
When every single unicorn was dead

Now faced with the glowing red sun
The wizards now faced what they had done
The head wizard went out on the open air
Down to the forest where the unicorn lay there
Acknowledging his presence, the unicorn looked round
The wizard in shame dropped to the ground
Opened the bag and 3,000 horns fell out
The unicorn snorted and without doubt
The wizard knew it's life had gone
And with it, now a huge black sun
There in the dieing forestry quarry
The wizard looked round and whispered "sorry"

Dreaming

Dreaming, floating Over horizon clouds and distant sunsets,
Smelling the cooling air which washes over my face,
Drinking in the atmosphere of peace and tranquility,
As I float, I see the people down below,
I watch as they go about their lives.
I see them as they drive to work,
I see them as they go to play.
I watch, I listen, I dream.
Now I open my eyes.
Then was the time for dreaming,
Now is the time for living.
