MACHINE MODE

This toy looks a bit like a steamshovel, modified heavily for war. There's a variety of neat mechanical features sculpted throughout the toy, including pistons, vents and grills. There's a little bit of robot 'kibble' visible between the caterpillar treads and behind the rear of the vehicle, but it doesn't stick out too badly. The toy is mainly olive green with fluoro-orange, black and silver accents throughout. The upper part of the crane neck and parts of the driver's compartment are made from translucent yellow plastic. I like the sculpting of the actual shovel... it looks positively monstrous! The shovel also has a gattling gun on the left and missiles attached on the right. Pulling a piston on the upper part of the crane makes the shovel open and close, mimicking the jaw of a giant animal. The base of the crane rests on a ball joint, giving it a wide range of movement. The original Scavenger may have been built for construction, but this Scavenger is undeniably built for destruction!

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

Fold the crane down. Raise the rear wheels up, revealing robot arms. Separate the robot legs, fold back the caterpillar treads (which act as supportive struts for standing). Fold out robot feet. Flip up robot head.

ROBOT MODE

Height: 11cm
Points of Articulation: 15
The robot mode looks just as vicious as the vehicle mode. This dude was just built to create acts of mass destruction and havoc. It's a pretty neat figure for a basic size. It looks a bit hunch-backed, but it seems to just add to the overall sinister look of this toy. The face also only reveals the translucent eyes (which glow under light). The gattling gun and missiles on the chest give long to medium range melee capabilty, and the clawed hands would make Scavenger a savage close range combatant.

SPARK CRYSTAL LOCATION

Open the door to the driver's compartment.

OVERALL

Beast Machines Scavenger waltz up to the original Scavenger, rip his head off, and release exhaust down his neck. Of course, the original Scavenger would then call on his Constructicon homies, merge into Devastator and step on our Scavenger here. Ah well, can't win 'em all. A pretty cool toy for only 12 bucks.
