BEAST WARS: TOY REVIEW

BEAST MODE
Height: 10cm at highest stance
Length: 21cm

Jawbreaker fits perfectly in the Transmetals 2 theme.
A hyena in a sense of only the beast mode resembling one, very little fur
is visible, primarily on the back, head, and the middle of the tail. The
front shoulders are large bulky mechanical mistakes, with fur, sharp blades,
and bolts. The right side has rear exhaust ports, the left side has three
cannons. On each wrist, large
blades stick out and down, and large spikes stick out
from the ankles. The head has a "Borg" eye on the right, and a large bladed
mohawk. The back has large spikes pointing back. The rear legs are a bit
ore organic than the front, but the ankles have large bands, with large
swords sticking out from the back. The tail is a mess of blades, spikes
and plates. The mohawk, shoulders and back spikes are chrome red. The head,
main body, hips, back legs and centre tail are brown. The front legs, back
ankle swords and tail are blue. The toy has 14 joints,
one in the neck, each shoulder, elbow, hip, upper knee,
lower knee, each ankle and the tail. Unfortunately, the robot chest just
hangs loosely from the bottom.
Gimmick: Push the small button on the back. The
back spikes spin like a saw blade.
TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE
Remove the tail. Separate the front left leg from the body.
Straighten the back legs, swing the body base panels out, fold the head
out, fold the body base up, fold the chest to the base and lock it in position,
and swing the front shoulder bases up. Fold the lower beast legs into the
shoulders, rotate the centre body around to form the right arm and pose
the left arm. The tail fits in the left hand.
ROBOT MODE
Height: 11cm
Width: 10cm
Why is it the Transmetal 2 beast modes look so good,
but most of the robot forms suck so bad? This is another case of standing
the toy up, basically. The centre hyena body forms the lower right arm,
and is way too long. Thankfully, the head makes a halfway convincing
hand. This is also the shortest deluxe I've seen. Guiledart/Triceradon
is bigger. This toy also has soem strange proportions. Short chest, small
hips, big legs, huge feet and the large beast legs hanging off his shoulders.
The new robot pieces are mostly light blue, with no new colours. The tail
does make a convincing sword though I mean, with that many spikes on it,
it can't be a whip. The legs also do a good job of bringing the word "chicken"
to mind. Lots of joints, and they can't straighten out. The large ankle
spikes also do a wonderful job of keeping you from sitting him against
a wall. The toy has 15 joints, 4 per leg, 2 in the left arm, 3 in the right
arm, one on the waist, and one in the neck.
Gimmicks: Press the button and the arm blade spins.
SPARK CRYSTAL LOCATION
The right elbow.
OVERALL
Just leave it in beast mode. The robot isn't worth it, and
the reverse transformation is almost impossible. (hmm,
much like Big Convoy in a way... -
