Chapter VI.

"Lieutenant Junior Grade Zachery A. Christenson, reporting as ordered, sir." Zachery snapped out, as he entered Admiral's Kirk's quarters.

"Dismiss with the formalities, Lt. Christenson, and take a seat." stated Kirk, from behind his desk. "So, I think we have a few things that we need to discuss here. Let's start off by you telling me just what in the hell you did to Commander Scott."

"Basically, all I did was to blanket all the thoughts in her mind which caused an overload her body ceased to voluntarily function at that time." Zachery stated, after sitting down, across from Kirk.

"Oh, really? Were you fully aware of the consequences of your actions?" Kirk stated, leaning across the desk.

"To some extent, but not completely. I acted out of a natural initiative to defend myself, from an attacker. At that time, I had no way of knowing that Commander Scott and Lt. Proudhawk were soulmates, and as such I can not tell the difference until both have read my mind. Therefore, when Commander Scott touched me on the shoulder, and I felt psychic emanations from her, I incorrectly and inaccurately jumped to the wrong conclusion that she was the one attacking me."

Kirk states to no one in particular, "Boy, isn't this great. Everybody admits they're wrong. I wish it could always happen like this." Then after leaning back in his chair, he says to Zachery. "I've been sitting here reading your file from Starfleet HQ, and it mentions this power of being able to blanket people's minds, but not the effect that it has on them. Do you care to elaborate further?"

"It's like this, Admiral, as the file says, when I am in physical contact with another person, psychic or non-psychic, I can take and put, as it's been described, a blanket over this person's mind, and depending on how much mental energy that I use, how thick this so-called blanket is. The thicker the blanket, the more damage that is caused, to said individual's mind. I can use just enough energy to cause dizziness all the way to death. You will also notice, in my file, that this is one of the powers, that I do have excellent control over."

"How come you didn't kill Commander Scott right off since you thought she was the one attacking you?"

"There was no need to, since killing would have been a waste of a human life and I felt that I could stop the attack by just making her go unconscious."

"You figured all this out, in the span of ten seconds?"

"That is why I underwent 10 years of Starfleet training, so as not to kill when unnecessary. They taught me that it is better not to kill, unless the situation immediately demands that I do so in order to protect my own life, those of my shipmates, or the ship in general."

"If you underwent 10 years of training, why is it that your file states you are still basically untrained?" Kirk questioned, leaning forward again, with increasing interest.

"Since I have no major psychic powers, but a myriad of many minor ones, with a slight specialty in a few. I have not learned how to control all of my powers. Starfleet felt that it was best that I learn to control the more dangerous ones first, and work on the passive ones later."

"Have you developed any of your powers to a further extent, since this report was last made?"

"Yes, sir. I have learned how to pick up stray telepathic thoughts much easier. I just found out today that I can read telepathic communications between soulmates, and I've been working on developing my Aural Vision."

"What do you mean by 'Aural Vision'?"

"I'm sure you have heard of the aura that emanates from the body that is normally invisible to the naked eye, but can very easily be seen through "Kerlian" photography. Some psychics also have the ability to see this aura."

"And how, did you happen to discover that you could hear telepathic conversations between soulmates?"

"I accidentally overheard Commander Scott communicating with Proudhawk while we were in Sickbay together."

"Do Commander Scott and Lt. Proudhawk know of this ability?"

"Yes, sir. I let them know, I did not hide it from them." Zachery answered, as he started to get nervous.

"Well, now that we have that part cleared up, how do you expect to straighten things out with Commander Scott and Lt. Proudhawk?" With Kirk noticing Zachery visibly relaxing slightly.

"I have already apologized to Commander Scott for my rash decision and the way I treated her, while we were in Sickbay. I hope that Lt. Proudhawk will also understand as she did, and that maybe we can turn back the clock and start this day over."

"I'm going to recommend that you arrange with Commander Scott and Lt. Proudhawk to get together and the three of you work this out politely."

"Sounds like a very good idea, sir." Zachery agreed. Then rising, saluting, and waits for dismissal.

"Dismissed, Lt. Christenson."

"Thank you, sir." Zachery answered, while walking out the door.
