Race Race Bannon is an ex-agent for the government who has become one of Dr. Quest’s closest friends. With his know-how on how to get out of danger, Race is a very essential part of the team.

Like Dr. Quest, Bannon has two important jobs. His first and foremost occupation would be acting as a father to Jessie. It’s said he didn’t know her until just a few years ago, so he’s learning as he goes along. When it’s his turn to have her with him, which is often, he and Jessie have fun together. Race is very proud of the child he and his ex-wife, Estella Velasquez, brought into the world.

Bannon first met the Quests just after Rachel Quest died. He was still working for the government and was assigned to protect Dr. Quest and his son. He grew to like them a lot and became Quest’s assistant after leaving the agency. Race still does a good job of protecting the Quest team as well as helping. He even risked standing atop a fast-moving train to get back a prototype invention of Dr. Quest’s. And thanks to all of his connections, Race can keep doing a good job.

Bannon is a ladies’ man. Almost everywhere they go, he seems to have an old girlfriend waiting, to Jessie’s annoyance. One time, the government had asked Dr. Quest to check out an inter-dimensional gate that had been opened. As soon as they arrived, Dr. Diana Cruz was there to greet him with a kiss. Naturally, Jessie complained.

Next to having a lot of old girlfriends, Bannon also made many enemies. And some of those enemies came back to haunt him and endanger his family. Villains like Dr. Jeremiah Surd all found a way to try and hurt the Quest team. Surd in particular just seems to keep coming back again and again. Before Bannon could stop it in the 70s, Surd was shot and crippled. He was thought to have been killed, but was really alive with a grudge. And no thanks to his nerve gas, a few people died while Chicago was threatened.

In the end, Race and Dr. Quest did survive the nerve gas, but often saw Surd again. He even tried to use his own daughter against him. Luckily, Questworld was invented to solve many problems, including the saving of his life. But if it were not for Race Bannon’s courage and abilities, the Quest team wouldn’t be alive to see the next day.
