Jessie stared at the ocean. She sat in the sand with her shoes off, her knees pulled up to her chest and her chin resting on them. She was completely oblivious to everything but her own thoughts. She didn't hear the person approaching behind her, so it came as quite a shock to her when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She jumped and spun to find Jonny behind her, "Don't you *ever* scare me like that again!" He flashed her his usual cheesy grin and sat down behind her. Jessie leaned back against him and he wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. "So, what's on yer mind?" Jonny inquired of his wife. "Nothing much," was her rather bland reply. "Don't lie to me, Jess. You know I never fall for it. What's bothering you?" he sounded concerned. "It's just....I miss 'em...." her voice trailed off. Jonny frowned, "Jess, they've only been gone an hour. And they'll be back any minute." he stopped when she started to laugh, "what?" "Not *them*....my parents....your dad....even Bandit. I miss all of them." "So do I. But what suddenly brought this up?" "I was just thinking....I don't know why....but I was thinking about how you got so sick....and that I almost lost you, and it just got me thinking I guess. I don't think I could have gone on without you, Jonny." "Sure you could have, don't talk like that. You're strong, you would've been fine." "Maybe....but I guess it doesn't really matter anymore since you're here, does it?" "I guess not," he considered it for a moment, "Jess, I need you to promise me something." "What?" "If I get killed or die, don't give up. I want you to go on just like you would if I were still here. And don't you dare close this place, or I'll....come back to haunt you," he threatened. "I'm scared." "I know. But seriously, Jess, promise me you won't," he urged. "I promise," she agreed after a slight hesitation. "Thank you," he said. they sat for a long time in silence. "I love you, you know," Jonny suddenly blurted. "I love you, too." "I know, I just wanted you to know that *I* love *you*." "Okay," she sounded more than a little confused. "I don't say it enough, and if something were to happen to me, I want you to know how I feel." "Oh...." Jessie didn't get a chance to say anything more before she was interrupted by a shriek from the direction of the compound. "What the heck was that?" Jonny and Jessie both got up and ran toward the building about a thousand feet away. "Mommy, help me!" the little girl who had screeched earlier cried when she saw her parents. "Jeremy, stop it! You're gonna hurt her!" Jessie shouted. Jeremy Surd stopped tickling the three year old and helped her up off of the ground. She ran to her mother and Jessie lifted her up. "Guess what kind I got?" the child asked, completely recovered from her previous state. "Hot fudge," Jessie stated matter-of-factly. The girl looked disappointed, "How did you know?" "Because I'm your mother, I know everything. Now, Miss Carley Rachel Quest, you need to go wash it off of your face." Carley squirmed free and ran toward the door to go inside. "You want the other one, too?" Jeremy asked, handing Jonny the carseat with a sleeping one year old in it. "I think we've found ourselves a nanny, Jess. He got Brian to sleep in the car. Maybe he can get him to sleep in his crib, too." Jessie looked a her sleeping son, "I *am* getting kind of tired of having his sleep in our bed every night...." Jeremy laughed, "Give him a bottle of warm milk about an hour before you want him to go to bed and he'll sleep *anywhere*," Jessie and Jonny looked at eachother, surprised, "Mel said it helped Darcey when she was a baby...." "I'll keep that in mind," Jessie's tone was dead serious, "I'll go put him to bed." "Tell Melanie and Darcey 'hi' for me," and she went inside, leaving Jonny and Jeremy alone. "Yer a lucky guy, Jon. Great wife, great kids, famous....you've got it all," Jeremy stated. "Yeah, I guess I am lucky," Jonny said after a few seconds. "I know we've had our differences in the past, but I'm glad you guys were willing to give me a second chance. Thanks." "I'm just glad we don't have to fight anymore. Having mortal enemies is Hell on family life," both men smiled. Jeremy looked at his watch, "I better be going, I told Mel I'd be home right after work." "You lied to your fiance? *Bad* Jeremy," Jonny teased. "Yeah, well, I never could resist taking a beautiful blond out to dinner, even if her little brother *did* have to come along." Jonny laughed, "Okay, go, before she puts out a death warrant." "See ya," Jeremy called as he got in his car and drove away. "Jonny, are you coming in?" Jessie called from the front doorway. He turned and headed for the house, "Y'know, Jess, I *am* a pretty lucky guy to have you." She frowned, "I'll take that as a compliment." "After all, you could have ended up with Jeremy...." he put his arm around her and kissed her on the forehead. "Not on your life, Jonothan Quest." "But what about Paris?" She punched him in the arm, "You should know better than to bring that up by now." "I'm a slow learner," he said. "I know, always have been." He was about to retort when she spoke again, "Face it Jonny, after all these years you've been stuck with me, you're still stuck with me for the rest of your life." He stopped and wrapped both arms around her waist, "I don't mind one bit." Mrs. Evans smiled and went the other way when she saw Jonny with his arms around his wife, gazing at her. She was equally captivated by him. After all, who was she to interrupt?
Ta da! I couldn't just leave them all dead, could I? Sorry I didn't leave Jonny dead, Lion, I just couldn't bring myself to do it!;) And *yes* Mrs. Evans is still with them! Just cuz I say so, and it fit into the story! Comments are welcomed and appreciated! No atomic pies or parachuting cows, please. My mom just cleaned up, and she'd KILL me:) And cows just won't fit in our basement! ~Montage~ montage@geocities.com
