Image Overpower has already brainwashed millions into believing that it's going to be the greatest Overpower yet. To this I say Yeah, right. I took a look at the Overpower site at marvel.com. This is the news, and the disappointment of Image Overpower.
The site features a list of characters and their specials due for Image. I went through, one by one, to pick out whom I might use for a cross-over deck and let me tell you, the characters are few and far between. There are roughly 25 characters due for Image. Of those 25, about 6 have decent ratings. The highest two are WitchBlade and Spawn at 21 each and if my memory serves me right, NOBODY had a higher total than 19. However, the biggest surprise of all to me was who got the 8's. Zealot got the 8 fighting, that's fine. Nobody, in my opinion, comes close to Wolverine, but Zealot deserved it. Spawn got the 8 Energy. I guess I can't complain, seeing as Helspont wasn't in it, but then, they'd save no promo cards for joining the Legion. Nobody got an 8 Intellect. The balance of power has shifted away from Intellect characters even further. It's not bad enough no one uses Henry Pym or Forge, but now there's no one to give Intellect characters a chance. The biggest insult to Overpower came with the 8 Strength. It went to Savage Dragon. I would have given him 7 tops. He's strong, I admit it, but the finhead couldn't touch the Hulk with a 10-foot pole in that category. There is another Image character who deserved the 8 strength: Maul, but again, whoever chooses the characters dropped the ball again. Only four of the WildC.A.T.S made it into Overpower: Zealot, Spartan, Grifter and Daemonite Voodoo. (Daemonite Voodoo will be a regular character in Image Overpower).
As if the characters weren't bad enough, the One-Per-Deck specials are even worse. Many of them reflect the lameness of Punisher's "Vendetta". The only truly good one is Grifter's "Nerves of Steel". It's a level 12 Intellect attack, but it may only be used if Grifter has 15 or more on his permanent record. That's fine if you can keep him from being spectrumized before that. The rest are just recycled from previous Overpower sets.
Many are waiting for Image Overpower and at my local store you can reserve a box for only $100! It was a nice try but I think I'll wait for the next Marvel set to come out. (Which includes Polaris, X-Man, Lizard and Abomination.) Image Overpower, as far as I'm concerned is a waste of time and money and that's the bottom line cause Scarecrow says so.
