The Sky Is Broken

Moby "Play", 1999

Season 7, all things

Director/Writer: Gillian Anderson

Air Date: 04/09/2000

See the storm is broken
In the middle of the night
Nothing left here for me
It's washed away
The rain pushes
The buildings aside
The sky turns black
The sky
Wash it far
Push it out to sea
There's nothing left here
For me
I watch it lift up to the sky
I watch it crush me
And then i die

Speak to me baby
In the middle of the night
Pull your mouth
Close to mine
I can see the wind coming down
Like black night
So speak to me
Like the winds outside
It's broken up, pushing us

Hear the rain fall
See the wind come to my eyes
See the storm broken
Now nothing
Speak to me baby
In the middle of the night
Speak to me
Hold your mouth close to mine
'Cause the sky is breaking
It's deeper than love
I know the way you feel
Like the rains outside
Speak to me

Gillian is so talented. That's the best I can say.

"all things" has her own rhythm, very authentic, artistic and symbolic. The script may not be as men-action- exciting as the others, but Gillian had made her story profound. It's not just a 45 minutes entertainment. This is a piece you will want to feel it, over and over again.

The colour and the texture of the episode is extremely exclusive. "The sky is broken" from Moby seems to beat at the same pulse with her rolling camera. (and of course, I rushed to buy "PLAY" the very next day. I really recommend it. )

This is a story about Dana Scully. This is also a story of Gillian, of her spiritual world. Somehow on screen the two images merged. This is Scully/Gillian, looking back her life, making decisions, and then moving on. She is both strong and vulnerable. And this awakened woman, is any one of us.
