Prototypes

These are pictures of some of the Blackstar prototype toys Galoob created but never released. Some of the changes are obvious, while others are merely changes in the box design.



We're not sure what Galoob was thinking when it decided to create a red spaceship; all the ships in the series were white. Now if they had decided to go with a Barbie-pink ship and Katana figure in a pink spacesuit, that would have made some sense.
The other difference between this prototype and the finished version is the box artwork. The finished box has a lovely painting of Blackstar and his ship against a black-hole backdrop (See the Toys page for the box artwork). For the prototype, however, there is no such artwork, just some block letters to tell you what the item is.



Meuton's head is just a bit big for his body, don't you think? The finished product has Meuton sporting a green head, a red stinger-nose and black eyes. And we don't see the working handcuffs with this model.



On the other hand, Klone's neck is a bit too thin in this version. And why is he standing on the Overlord's horned helmet? Let's not go there, shall we?



The prototype Ice Castle is an icy blue, while the finished castle is a grayish white. The box art remains the same.



Here's a real eye opener for you.
We're not sure what the prototype Blackstar is toking,
but if it keeps him that awake, we want some.
