Let me get one thing out before I really start. I love music, and all types of it, too. However, I especially enjoy Classical and Romantic. Some of my favorite composers are Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven. Mozart is cool because he is usually so happy. Chopion, well, Chopin rules, and that is all there is to it. He can have such power, and yet such delicacy in the same song. He is amazing. Liszt is, well, Liszt. He composed some very technically challenging peices that are also extremely cool sounding, such as his well known Hungarian Thapsody #2. Last (I know, not last in chronological order), but certainly not least, is Beethoven. He is another composer of similar qualities to Chopin, but instead of writing almost everything for the piano, he also wrote it for symphony orchestras! He's awesome, too.
Some of my favorite modern day composers are David Lanz and Jim Brickman. (Hm, do I play the piano at all? Does this have any reflection on my choice of music? =). David Lanz composes a wide variety of things, but all are pretty much in the spectrum of a Romantic feel. Jim Brickman is much the same in that respect, although their approaches are drastically different. Lanz's melodies can be very complex, and he seems to revel in the runs (to a certain extent. =). Brickman, on the other hand, tends to take a very simplistic approach, and often combines the left and right hand notes into a fluid motion to make it sound like one "arpegio" affect, and so sometimes you aren't sure whether the left hand is playing or the right. I guess you could say that the hands are very "integrated".
I do like Yanni . . . a little. The main problem I have with Yanni is that much of his stuff is so . . . similar. Basically, you listen to one cd, and you've listened to them all. I do have some favorite songs by him, though. I really enjoy his "Marching Season". It is a lively peice that can also show off the technical skill of the pianist. It is difficult, however, to keep it from sounding like a "metronome". I also like Enya, when I get the chance to liten to her, which isn't often.
Overall, music is cool . . .any music. If rock is your thing, great. If rap suits your fancy, hey, that's cool too. But my personal favorites are Classical, Romantic, and some "New Age".
Well, I never thought I'd be doing this, but, here I am doing it anyway. My family owns a digital piano, and through it and a decent computer, I was able to make a couplea midi recordings. I like 'em, even if noone else does. ;)
Please note, I've put considerable amount of time into some of these (some of them, like the improv, I haven't, but fur elise and it's ilk I have and as for the improvs, they are my personal creations, so...). If you'd like to use them (I like to flatter myself ;), be my guest, but please e-mail me at pianosrgreat@hotmail.com and let me know which one(s) you're using, and the site you're using them on. Also, a link back to here would be appreciated. Thanks!
