A Day In My Shoe

A fair bit of piddling.

An awkward stretch.

A large cup of herbal tea.

It's an unusual cup, more like a soup bowl with a handle - one of a set of four, compliments of an old friend, who has since vanished into the city jungle, or is dead, casualty of modernity. Such a pity; it seems to me!

I'm using the brown cup. I often use this brown cup, though it's chipped on the far edge. Three minutes in the microwave. Beep. Beep. Beep. A smattering of brown sugar. Whiffs of processed mint. Some more sugar. Stir.

I take today's first sip.

Memory plays these tricks with me. Or, is this a reminding, as with the wise tellers of yore, who repeated the same story for a reason? Yet, how often, do some hearers abandon substance to wrestle with style? Memory does play some tricks with me.

I wash my face. I brush my teeth.

The tea is different now, like a trick on my tongue, but I'm fully acquainted with this tingling that lets the playful memories vanish, as with a wand. So, I drink more until I sea the bottom of the teacup, and there is no doubt this new day, in earnest, has begun.

Let the seconds unfold. It's incredible hard to swallow an hour in one gulp. Let it each second flow and settle like, like, like fine wine. Then, swallow.
