Tick-tock-tick-tock-tick-tock... 5 AM A fair bit of piddling. Flush. An awkward stretch. Yawn. A large cup of herbal tea. Mint. It's an unusual cup, more like a soup bowl with a handle - one of a set of four, compliments of an old friend, who has since vanished into the city jungle, or is dead, casualty of modernity. Such a pity; it seems to me! I'm using the brown cup. I often use this brown cup, though it's chipped on the far edge. Three minutes in the microwave. Beep. Beep. Beep. A smattering of brown sugar. Whiffs of processed mint. Some more sugar. Stir. I take today's first sip. Ahh. Memory plays these tricks with me. Or, is this a reminding, as with the wise tellers of yore, who repeated the same story for a reason? Yet, how often, do some hearers abandon substance to wrestle with style? Memory does play some tricks with me. This time a slurp. A few more slurps. I wash my face. I brush my teeth. The tea is different now, like a trick on my tongue, but I'm fully acquainted with this tingling that lets the playful memories vanish, as with a wand. So, I drink more until I sea the bottom of the teacup, and there is no doubt this new day, in earnest, has begun. This is the day that I will ... -->> NEXT
