It's simply amazing how much the wealth of information available on the internet has changed the way we learn. Ten years ago, if I wanted to see a specific image taken from a specific spacecraft, I would have had to go to great lengths to get a high quality printed copy. Today, I just print it out at home. The NASA Image Exchange is a great source for Space Images of all kinds. ..and many would agree that the Hubble Space Telescope has taken it's share of great ones too.
We must have Dark
Skies in order to see what's really out there. The darker the sky, the more we'll see out there, so, next
time you leave that porchlight on all night....(maybe
you'll think twice).

By the way, Mars Polar Lander, along with the Deep Space 2 Microprobes and a microphone to listen, live, to Mars and nearly a million peoples' names on board, including mine and yours if you submitted it, was successfully launched January 3! It all arrives at the Red Planet on December 3, 1998. With only one very minor exception, everything is working well. Looks like we might be in for an interesting Christmas. It's called MIMAS and it scares me that a moon in our own solar system can look so much like a Deathstar. We might want to keep a close eye on this one... Those of us who are aware of SOHO's history, well, some of us are supcious of the timing of SOHO's misfortunes. Co-incidences?? Famous Line: "there are no coincidences" (after all, this is Conspiracy Corner:-)/ ...but no Conspiracy Corner would be complete without a link to Martian Anomalies
Stardust Mission...we're on our way to collect comet droppings...(I hope those Heaven's Gate members don't have the runs). Anyway, some of you may remember Operation Sunglint where, as Stardust was passing Earth on it's way to Deep Space, it's solar panels were turned to 'light up the earth' two January's ago. Look back to the February Issue of '98 for my report on that and the Shuttle night launch I watched from Cape Canaveral that very same night takingthe last U.S. astronaut up to MIR.

There was this contest to name the two deep penetration probes aboard the Mars Polar Lander...My submission was "Why and How"..?? I guess they didn't take me seriously since I've never heard back from them...hmm... This is the contest page for that.
...NASA owes us a live image of the U.S. flag on the moon
and here's why.
First of all, it would be a fantastic
tribute to the dawn of a new millennium and a fitting
celebration to the end of this century. It would also be a great
tribute to the death of U.S. astonaut Alan Shepard ( who , by the way, is the only person ever to hit a golf ball on the moon ). The
timing would be perfect on 4th of July or New Years Eve or on the annaversary of Shepards death or , oh heck, let's just make it happen ok? I
do believe it's time to go back to the moon....with at
least a rover and camera....if not some astronauts...
Come on NASA, show me the flag...SHOW ME THE FLAG!!!
Help me out here fellow space fans. After all, it is us paying for these missions. Don't you think it's time they went where we told them to??
