Unlike other chat rooms The Red Dragon Inn is set in a role playing enviroment. This is where
each person chatting takes on the identity of someone other than themselves.
(For Those of you out there that avoid chat rooms, afraid they may pick up a net-stalker by
telling too much about themselves, check this out!)
If you're reading this section I presume you're still interested in joining the fun at the Red Dragon Inn...
This is the most complex step and the most important one. In this step you decide the major details about your character (*C*):
After you have completed this step the rest will be a snap!
This is by far the easiest part of the three step process! You just go to Netcentral and choose to register a handle.
Remember, Your handle (Characters Name) will be protected by a password. Choose something you can remember!
When you pick a handle for your character there is only one requirement: PICK SOMETHING YOU LIKE! Too many times I've seen people kill off or delete perfectly good characters because they just got sick of the characters name! Please.. Don't pick a name that just sounds cool if you don't like it. Look at me... Izzi the Brownie... It's a stupid, wimpy name, but it's one that I enjoy playing under... After you choose a name you like and reserve it... Go ahead and enter the RDI.
Okay. You're all set to go to The Inn? Here's how:
First go to the Netcentral login page by clicking on the pic at the beginning of this page
Then enter in your *C's* name password and under Choose room choose the Red Dragon Inn.
Then just clink on the Enter Chat button and your in!
The RDI isn't set up like most chat rooms... The RDI is an actual place with interactive objects
(even if they are just in your mind.). Remember you are entering a midevil Inn with a tavern on
the first floor. Treat it as such. There for you can sit down on a couch, at a table or the bar
or even go to a room upstairs (Though technically you'll still be at a computer staring at a
the same chat screen everyone else is).
To separate your actions and decriptions from what you say to another *C* you must mark it as
such. This is done by using symbols at either the beginning and end of your actions or putting
your words in quotation marks (The former being the most popular). Popular symbols are: (::)
or (*) and (~). But use what ever suits you. Remember everyone has there own way of doing
things so there is no right or wrong way! The only exception being double parenthesis:
((Blah, blah, blah)) this for the most part is saved for talking OOC (Out Of Character).
Okay... When you first enter the RDI no one will no of your presence there for you must annouce That you have entered. There for state what happens when you enter. Do you merely walk through the front door? Or do you enter through a magic portal... Does a blinding flash lightning fill the room before you appear? Be creative but choose an entrance fitting to your *C* and remember to decribe what any onlooker in the RDI would see when you enter and mark it as such if needed.
A few people will add a web link to their decription. Most often this is done as they enter. If you find a pic you think is fitting for your character or want to create one GO FOR IT!! It helps add to the story when people know exactly what you look like... Who knows Maybe another *C* will fall in love with you. Even a simple line drawing that has been scanned and posted on a personal web site will do. Nothing fancy is needed! I draw my own pics, and though it may not look as good as those who got them from a fantasy art gallery, at least I know It's how I wanted my *C* to look, at didn't change my decription to match the pic. This *C* is My own creation... Without any help. (If you still don't want to draw a pic and don't have any luck at the galleries then you can emailme at izzi_t_brownie@geocities.com And if you give a decription of your *C* I will give it my best shot, free of charge. Which is because I can't promise you'll like it.)
Once in a while a fight will break out in the RDI. Now this has to be handled in kind of a
strange way. ACTIONS, ACTIONS, ACTIONS!!! Say you wanted to hit a guy who was ticking you off...
You need to write that you were going to hit him, But because the other *C* is being played by
another person you can't say if it hits or not. that's up to the other player.
Example:
Izzi gets mad and writes: *Takes out his warhammer and goes to hit Janous DarKal in the shin*
TAKE THIS!!!!!
Janous DarKal could then write: ::Jumps back and avoids the hammer then kicks at he the brownie:: STUPID BROWNIE!!!
Izzi then reacts: *Takes the hit square in the chest and skids across the room* AAAHHHHH!!!!! OW!! OWW! OOOOWWWWWW!!!!!
It continues like this until a person get tired of it and yields.
Even though you get to decide if your *C* takes a hit, you still have to let your *C* get hurt every once in a while. This helps keep play interesting and keeps your *C* respected by the other players. No one likes an invincible character and many people will ignore you if you do. God-Moding is the term used for a *C* that seems invincible.
Same as the entrance. Make it interesting.
