The gargoyle clan living in Detroit is the remnants of a long-lost French clan brought to the Americas with settlers in the mid-18th Century. Most of the clan lived out their lives with their French companions in Canada, but a few adventurous souls travelled with some of those same settlers further into the continent. Eventually, the forefathers of what would become Clan Detroit settled into Fort Michlimackinac around 1769.
Fast-forward to the present day. Clan Detroit is now down to only four existing descendants of those original French gargoyles remaining, thanks to many factors which have influenced their human protectorate. The clan is on the brink of extinction when a wayward, lost green gargoyle from New York wanders into Detroit. His name is Lexington. Clan Detroit will never be the same again.
The leader of Clan Detroit. Mustang is the second-eldest member of the remaining clan, given the leadership due to his youth and strength. However, he should never be underestimated in a combat situation: though young, he is eminently experienced in the ways of war.
It was at his insistence that Clan Detroit adopted names for themselves, being one of the last clans to abandon the old ways of no names. It was also his idea that they should choose names that reflected Detroit; hence, they named themselves after automobiles.
Dodge was the former leader of the clan, but now acts as a mentor to Mustang. He will never leave Detroit, because of his great love for his mate, Eagle, who was killed in an industrial accident. Dodge is now content to live out his days, showing Mustang the ways of leadership.
Pontiac is Mustang's second-in-command and rookery sister. She suffers from wanderlust, which compels her to travel into wide circles; among all the members of the clan, Pontiac is the only one who has ever left the city of Detroit.
It was on one of these wandering trips that she happened across Lexington, saving his life when he almost fell into the Detroit River, completely exhausted. She nursed him back to health, convincing him to stay with the clan. Pontiac eventually became his mate, which she felt was preordained because he was the only other web-winged gargoyle she had ever met besides herself.
Cadillac is the newest member of Clan Detroit: in human years, she is 13 years old (which makes her pre-pubescent). She is the daughter of Pontiac and Lexington, and her birth brought great joy to the clan: Cadillac was the first egg hatched since Mustang and Pontiac, almost 62 years before.
Buick is Dodge's old pet from his younger days. Though his behavior belies it, Buick is nearly as old as Dodge himself. Buick has been loyal to the clan for nearly a century, and has a heightened intelligence to show for it. One side effect of this heightened intelligence: Buick somehow learned how to drive (Lexington rigged an old Skylark and gave it to Buick as one of the first things he did upon joining the clan.).
While the invasion is a global event, Lexington has been keeping a close watch on what has happened in New York, especially where it involves his former clan. At Mustang's insistence, Lexington brings Pontiac and Cadillac to New York with him to help Clan Manhattan fight the invasion.
