Parenting 204: Extra Credit

by Maigret

[breee-op]

[exasperated sigh] "Yes, Doc. I just checked myself with the tricorder. The information should be showing up on the medlab monitor now."

[huffs] "There is no call to be rude. I am just checking up on you."

[sighs] "I know Doc, but can't you check on Tom or something. You're comming me every hour and it's distracting me."

[eyebrow quirks] "Distracting you? From what? What are you doing there?"

[a quick flick of the wrist and something is hidden from view] [staring match ensues, doctor gives up with an ill-concealed pout]

"Very well, Ensign Kim. I will check on you in two hours."

"Four?"

[grumpy snort] "Four."

[relieved smile] "Thanks Doc."

[screen winks off, Harry retrieves something from behind the couch, monitor winks on again]

"By the way Ensign..." [another quick wrist flick and the ensign stares blandly at the peering doctor]

"Yes."

"I told Mr. Paris and now I am informing you, you are cleared for slightly more strenous activities."

[Ensign stutters] "M-m-more? I can go back to Ops?"

"Of course not, Mr. Kim. But Mr. Paris was most insistent about other allowable pastimes. I don't think you two should indulge in warp-speed calisthenics, but as long as neither of you is taxed, everything should be fine."

[more stuttering from red faced Ensign] "Any position we shouldn't, err?"

"I am a doctor, not a sex therapist."

[Ensign blushes redder]

"And Ensign, I may be a holograhic doctor, but I am well acquainted with the art of knitting."

[monitor flicks off]

[under breath muttering] "Nosy Holodoc."

[Ensign pats his slightly bulging midsection] "Non-strenuous activity, huh?" [mischievous gleam enters expressive eyes, checks chronometer] "I'll show him non-strenous." [encodes message on datapad for spouse's eyes guaranteed to raise libido.]

[bree-op]

"Sam, Tom and I are ready to give our parenting skills a whirl. We'll be happy to take care of Naomi tonight."

[grateful outburst]

"It's not a problem Samantha. I think twenty four hours is a good start."
