Trolls From the Sixties

The trolls of recent years are happy little folks, usually with cheerful, smiling faces, although that is not a criteria for me to have a troll in my collection. The walls of my workroom (and my bedroom and the hall...) are lined from floor to ceiling with trolls! Everywhere I look, I see their funny little faces!

I'll begin with trolls from the sixties, the hey-day of the troll in the USA. Thomas Dam, known as the father of the trolls, is commonly credited with creating the first troll for mass-marketing. A wood-carver who lived in Denmark, he carved a troll for his child, and it was an immediate hit...thus, was a legend born!

Many imitators followed in his footsteps, and some of them really pushed the limits of "trollness". You will see many trolls that barely resemble what we expect a troll to look like.

The diversity in the sixties was amazing...I never knew that so many different types of trolls existed! Or outfits! All of the ones that I had were nude (blush). I have been able to collect a few in their original outfits, and will show them to you here! I hope they delight and amuse you...they have certainly brought much joy to my life!

Bearded
Troll

This little troll is 3" tall. He has rooted, curly saran hair and beard, and plastic eyes. These clothes are the original ones as far as I know. I've never seen a bearded troll with plastic, inset eyes...they usually have molded, painted eyes!

Bearded
Santa

Santa
Troll

This 8" unmarked troll has rooted hair and beard. He is wearing his original outfit. He has black tights that serve as his boots. He is hard to find. Expect to pay between $45 and $85 for him.*

S.H.E.Troll

This 11" soft-body troll was made by Scandia House Enterprises. This is the boy, and his original clothes are attached to his body. His head, arms, and hands are made of vinyl. He is worth $55 to $100.*

Clowns

These two 3" trolls are wearing original clown suits, although they are missing their masks. The one on the left is a Uneeda Wisnik(my favorite3" trolls!). The one on the right is unmarked, with molded and painted eyes and pale blue rooted saran hair. They are valued at $15 each.*

Cowboy
Troll

The cowboy and the lady! The cowboy is unmarked, in an original outfit with gun and holster! The lady is a Wishnik in an original outfit with shoes.
