U.S.S. Rachel Garret
NCC 24947
Originally comissioned as the USS Faragut-B, the Rachel Garret represents the only ship in Starfleet to ever be recomissioned. Following the sacrifice of the Enterprise-C at Narendra III, the Klingon High Council demanded that Starfleet commission a ship named after Rachel Garret, honoring her sacrifice and signifying the beginning of the peace process. Starfleet greatly desired peace with the Klingons, but had no new ships available for commission at the time desired by the Klingons. The Farragut-B, however, was almost finished with its' latest repair and refit tour at Utopia Planetia, so Starfleet took the historic step of recommissioning it the USS Rachel Garret. The Klingons were appeased, and the peace process was successful. As a token of their earnest desire for peace, the Klingons stationed a troop of Klingon Warriors onboard the Garret, to symbolize the two great powers working together.
That was 2344.
The year is now 2376. The Federation is engaged in a terrible war with the Dominion, and their puppet state, Cardassia. Station Deep Space Nine is in the hands of the Dominion, and the casualties are beginning to mount in unprecedented numbers. Starfleet has a desparate plan, to strike into Cardassian space, and take out the shipyards and ship building capacity. But, Starfleet needs a distraction.....
Enter the Rachel Garret, still licking her wounds from the latest battle with a Borg cube that nearly reached Earth. The actions of the Enterprise and her legendary captain, Jean-Luc Picard, have already become something of a mythology at that battle, and the resulting trip into the past. But little is said of the many ships and crewmen who lost their lives in that battle. The Rachel Garret was severely disabled, and required extensive overhauls and replacements. And she needed a crew, as most of the former crew spent their last seconds gasping in cold space. Any other ship at any other time would have been manned with the best available crewmembers not currently active. But, other motivations within Starfleet would rule this day.
