Gurahl

As a young Gurahl from the time before the War of Rage I was under the tutelage of the Elder Twilight-over-the-Ice-Flow in preparation for his final rest. As the time came for the completion of my training and recognition for my first rank came Twilight set me a challenge that came of necessity, I was to rescue one of Twilight's kin from the breaking ice flow. By calling upon my ancestors, and in particular my great-grandfather Heals-Gaia's-Little-Ones, to aid me in my quest I managed to save the young cub not only from the breaking ice but a young orca that left his mark and a single tooth upon my hide. For the successful completion of my task I was granted the aged Twilight's responsibilities. From then on it was my responsibility to look after that area and I did so gladly.

Then one day a tribe of Eskimos entered my lands and settled due to the abundant food they found. They grew complacent and drifted from the ways of harmony, for how could such great supply ever run out? I discovered this tribes excesses and investigated the reasons for it, and to my horror detected my first scent of the corrupted Wyrm's taint. Upon the rising of the sun I entered the village in my human form to confront the taint within. Glad I am that only one who lived there was tainted, yet he was their leader! I faced the Wyrm spawn and challenged it and the twisted fomor hidden below the surface erupted, after a long and arduous battle that saw the fomor's wife killed and some of the villages injured. Ignoring my own wounds I tended the villagers and cleansed them saying, "If you have need of me again I will come.". When my fellow Gurahl heard of this feat I was advanced to the second rank.

The Rites and wisdom that the Mother had granted the Gurahl that allowed me to foresee a mighty and terrible storm that would devastate my protectorate. Making use of the kin I had sired I rallied the Eskimos and herded the animals I could to safety from the approaching maelstrom. Through this harrowing ordeal I searched for answers to this unnatural occurrence and learnt that the Bane I had bested years before had caused this maelstrom in vengeance for my foiling of the Wyrm's last foray into the Pure Lands. Entering the Shadow to track down the spirit I called upon my totem Bear the Healer and with the guidance she and my ancestors provided tracked the fiend to its umbral lair. After long days of travel amongst the Airts I caught up with the Bane I had been seeking and engaged it in combat. The spirit struck devastating blows upon my bodied and I lifted up my voice in farewell to the Mother. It was then that I was infused with a new strength and felt Bear come to my aid. Though I should have fallen many a time Bear would not allow it so long as I sung my song. For this reason I was triumphant and Bear has granted me her personal Blessing.

I returned to my home and trained a new warder for I was to enter the Long Sleep until a time that Bear called me forth to perform a service in the name of Gaia. I slept and dreamed and in my last before awakening I was lead to the mouth of one of the three great Banes and told to enter by my guide. I traveled through the creature suffering agonies and torments until I emerged from its hind quarters and was faced with a sight I will remember till the final rest, for before me was the Wyrm's heart; before me was Maelfeas.
