The Warp Angels monastery is located on the hive world Julian IX on the fringes of known space. The actual fortress is far into the ash wastes and removed from most contact. Recruits are some of the toughest ash nomads and most dangerously psychotic hive dwellers in the system. Occasionally the chapter recruits from neighboring planets as well, but the bulk of new recruits come from Julian itself.
During the wars of the Apostasy when the Imperial Cult waged war on Space Marine chapters the Warp Angels mobilised their entire chapter and began a massive recuiting campaign. They tore into any and all Cult forces with a vengence. The atrocities and crimes commited by the Cult on unsuspecting Marines was too much to bear. Bitter fighting broke out as the Warp Angels own homeworld was victim to a coup attempt by loyal Cult followers. The cleansing of Julian's five main hives was some of the most brutal and bloody fighting the chapter had ever seen. The fighting reached a stalemate after the fifth month of fighting, and were it not for the timely action of a tactical squad and loyal underhivers ceasing Hive Prometheus the war may have lasted longer than two years. Because of the bitter fighting on and off their homeworld the Warp Angels vowed to destroy any Cult forces they encountered. A vow which continues to this day.
The Warp Angels use the older Mark VI armor as standard, although a few marines have older or newer power armor variants. The vast majority of the weapons maintained in their armories are older versions. The chapter has a shortage of plasma and melta based weapons and primarily rely upon bolter variants and simpler weapons. This is due mainly to the difficulties in getting more complicated weapons and spare parts on a regular basis.
Rank insignia are shown as chevrons on the marines' arms. One bar is a squad leader, two a sergeant, three a force leader (equivalent to a lieutenant).
