Has Animorphs Gone Too Far?

By Mark Jade/Visser 2

When I say that, of course, I mean the commercialism surrounding the whole of Animorphs.  The first obvious sign of the overcommercialism is the TV show.  Now, I can't make many judgements, seeing as how I don't have cable, but I dutifully had a friend tape the first few episodes for me to watch.  The one major thing I noticed was that the shows seemed too short.  There was no room to tell a good story in 30 minutes.

Which brings me to my next point.  KA is almost certainly having restrictions put on the length of the books.  Many of the recent ones seem rushed, and there is no time for good plot development.  There is also no time for those fun little things at the beginning, anyone remember the stomping of the car dealership?

The New Animorph Trilogy, as well as the Megamorphs and Chronicles, are all awesome, because, while KA probably had a restriction on the Megamorphs and Trilogy, they were much longer, the characters (David) developed, the plot had twists and turns and coverups.  Secrets and surprises.  And the Chronicles?  They, to put it simply, rock.

Also, the Alternamorphs.  Sure to be crap.  I mean, this is Animorphs, it's a story.  You can't just have other writers take it over!  It's KA's story too.  The books will sell well naturally.  I have read many fanfics online in which the sole purpose of the story was to stick the author in with the Animorphs.  Most of these were crap as well.

And then there's the toys.  Need I say more?  They're stupid.  The guys  "morph" by flipping they're heads inside their chests.  Most of them aren't real morphs anyway.  And has anyone noticed how any product of  Animorphs is advertised using the TV show?  Not the books?

So that's my two cents.  Please send me your own. (anidata@hotmail.com)
