Cloak Making Workshops
November 7 & 27, 1999 and many nights and days in between.
During the whole of November something I witnessed something special in my short time in KAG… a workshop day. It was truly something to behold.
On with the workshops, both days started early with people turning up at noon (well early for KAG get togethers). We had a good turn out. Qorgh, Kragh'N, Keh-lahr, B'Etor, LeDei', B'leth, Krud, Seng, Orion Slave Girl, Klagg, DehGems, Daq & E'ninaj, veqtaH, Koord, Hov, Ilia, Morf put the time in.
A rough pattern was designed for the command cloaks, and off we went. In total we produced 15 cloaks, and like anything the pattern evolved between the first and the last. None of the cloaks are alike, each one is different in some way.
The cloaks are truly a sign of acheivement for each warrior, as no one had a cloak handed to them, everybody had to do a lot of work on their own cloaks, and the results are fantastic. To help out we established a production line and split the process in two parts. The first part saw the men take centre stage. They measured, cut and pinned the cloaks together. In the second part of the process the female warriors came into the fore. B'leth, Keh-Lahr, the Orion Slave Girl and B'Etor took turns on the 3 sewing machines that were there, while the men kept the children occupied.
The most amazing thing was that everybody came way feeling proud of what they had achieved and EVERYBODY really enjoyed themselves. This could become a regular event.
How To Put it Together
7. Pockets
Width: slightly wider than the Side panel, so
it over laps on both sides
Depth: Double the depth you wish
Addition: fold pocket in 2, and sew into top seam
of the side panel and into the seams of the sides of the side panels
