Some notes on my very old pictures: One of the ways I came up with ideas for things to draw would be to make a character, usually using some sort of roleplaying game, in conjunction with vague ideas of what I wanted the character to be. Most of my drawings from this time period were of characters created this way. I often did the drawings of the backs of the character sheets, so most of them tend to have a lot of visual 'noise' in the backgrounds, from where the words are showing through. This character was one of many like this. Most of them were also never actually used for roleplaying, but sat in a binder. Most of the pictures were done in mechanical pencil, most likely with HB leads, as I didn't know much about drawing with varying leads until years later. Each drawing tended to be done in one sitting, as I found it distressing at the time to start a picture and come back to it later. Pictures which were not completed within one sitting were almost never completed. I also didn't know about inking, but I had ready access to a photocopier, so it came about that I would photocopy drawn images, and then color in these copies. The guys I knew used to tease me about my female characters having big legs, and my male characters for tending to look feminine. As a result, I tended not to draw many males, unless they were supposed to be feminine. All of my female characters tended to have large, defined leg muscles, small hips and slender waists, going up to muscular ribcages. Drawings with pen were rare for this time period, and usually indicate that the image is a doodle, but there are rare incidences of other media in use, such as one marker-drawn picture. I no longer have any of the computer images I would have done from this time period, but there were many of those as well. |
