Ricardo Islas is a b-movie maker from Uruguay, known as "the John Carpenter of Uruguay", he became a cult filmmaker in Uruguay with a Corman-Hammer Films formula.

His first succes was Crowley(1986), a vampire movie in wich he also plays the lead role(in almost all his movies, he write, direct,produce and perform). In 1988 he made a great adaptation of a novel of Osvaldo Quiroga, "Almohadon de Plumas". Then, the sequel "Las Cenizas de Crowley" a very bloody movie.

In the 90`s he won lots of awards with movies like "Plenilunio"(1993)-his favourite movie , coming soon in USA via Salt City Home Video-, La Trampa(1992) and his last movie "Miedo Silencioso"(1996)
