So This is What You Did Last Summer
by Lady Raven

Disclaimer: The Buffyverse and its characters belong to Joss Whedon. The original characters and situation from 'I know what you did last summer' belong to Lois Duncan, and the changes made in the screenplay belong to Kevin Williamson. I made no monetary profit off this, so don't sue. This really weird twist and the changes I've made to the timeline of both 'Buffy' and that movie so that the twist makes sense belongs to me, along with this story.

Warning: This contains MAJOR spoilers for the movie 'I know what you did

last summer'. Read on at your peril.

Part Four

Helen walked to Angel and slid her arms around his neck. She looked into his eyes and just like on Dead Man's Curve, they focused on each other to such an extent, Julie and Ray felt like they weren't even in the room.

"I spent the last two years being ordinary, and I loved every minute of it. But all it took was thirty seconds to sweep it all away so completely that I can't ever get it back. I spent the last two years living without you, but all it took was seeing you once to know that I couldn't stand it for one more day. It may have taken me two years, but I've finally accepted that some things are destined." Helen dropped her head and added, "Unless you don't want me any more."

Angel answered instantly, his voice fierce. "For the last two years I've dreamed about you every time I slept. For the last two years I've walked into rooms seeking your face."

Julie and Ray stood watching, both of them aware that deeply in love as they were, these two loved each other with a force they could never quite understand.

"Helen?" Ray asked.

Angel and Helen looked up, startled.

"What, Ray?"

"Angel said something the other night about you changing your name. If you're not Helen Shivers, who are you?"

She smiled and replied, "Buffy. Buffy Summers." She took her arms from Angel's shoulders and walked to the bed. As she grabbed a too-large leather jacket off her bed and slipped it on, she asked "Could you stay up here for a little while after I leave, then tell Uncle John I don't want to be disturbed? We could use a head start."

"Of course. We'll miss you" Julie told Helen-no, Buffy.

"I'll miss you guys too," Buffy said. She hugged them both tightly, and added, "You're two of the truest friends I've ever had. Thank you for all you've given me the last two years." Buffy grabbed the backpack, slung it on and walked to the window. Angel helped her out, and the two of them disappeared into the night.

After a few seconds Julie asked, "How did he get up here, anyway?"

Julie and Ray ran to the window, and saw Buffy and Angel walking across the moonlit lawn. "What would have happened to us that night if it hadn't been for Buffy and Angel?" Julie asked.

Ray replied "Thank God we never had to find out," and put his hands on her shoulders as they watched. "They look so right together," he said.

"Remember four nights ago, when we watched Helen on the stage and I said that she was born for it?" Julie felt, rather than saw, Ray nod. "Helen may have been born for that, but…I think Buffy was born for this."

On the lawn, Buffy stopped Angel and turned back towards the house, blowing a kiss to her friends. Then a cloud passed over the moon, and when the lawn was bathed in light again, no one was there.

The End.
