Gillian Leigh Anderson was born Aug. 9, 1968

Her story began when she decided to audition for a community play while still attending high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan.......Before that, she had travelled quite a bit, she was born in Chicago before her family moved to Puerto Rico and then to London, where she spent the next 9 years.
Her father Edward runs a film postproduction company and her mother Rosemary is a computer analyst.
When she was in her teens, Gillian wore a nose ring..and also, for a time, dyed her hair blue, purple and black...
Later on Anderson returned to Chicago to study acting at Depaul University's Goodman Theater School and was noticed by some NY-based William Morris agents at an actor's showcase. They offered to represent her in pursuing acting as a career but she had to move to NY....she loaded up her car and moved to the Big Apple at the age of 22.
To support herself in NY, she worked as a waitress
Her first role was in a off-Broadway play called 'Absent Friends', she won a Theatre World Award for her performance.
Next up was a lowbudget feature called 'The turning' and 'the Philantropist, a Christopher Hampton play being staged at a theater in New Haven, Connecticut.
She swore never to do televison but after being out of work for almost a year she read the pilot script for THE X-FILES and found herself immediately drawn to both the character of Dana Scully and her relationship with fellow FBI agent Fox Mulder.
Her first TV role was was that of a guest role on "Class of '96".
Anderson was 24 years old at the time and the role for Scully was actually supposed to be someone who was 29 or 30.....She lied and said to everyone she was 27.
During production she began dating Clyde Klotz, an art director for the show. The two married while on vacation after seeing each other for roughly 4 months. Soon she found out she was pregnant and she gave birth to a baby-girl named 'Piper'. The marriage didn't last too long and for now, she is still single...Gillian, if you read this, I'm still available :-)
4 Days after her daughter was born Gillian was already back on the X-FILES set shooting scenes for the 'One Breath' episode.
When she grew up, she wanted to be a marine biologist.

When she moved to Vancover to do the X-FILES Gillian lived in a condominium owned by Steven Williams, who later became the mysterious X....when he was living there and co-starring on 21 Jump Street.
Gillian's favorite episodes of the X-FILES are: "Beyond The Sea" and "Irresistible".
Gillian ate at least one live cricket during the filming of the 'Humbug'-episode, to the astonishment of cast and crew.(actually, in a blooper scene you can see her run of and spit it out) (thanks April !!)

In the ''Ascension"-episode, we actually see Gillian's pregnant torso lying in the examination-scene, she was only a few weeks away from the birth of her daugher Piper who was born September 25, 1994.
