The captain of the new Enterprise was called Jean-Luc Picard. He was from France. The Enterprise was his second command. His first ship was the Uss Stargazer, a very old Constellation class starship. He was a lieutenant in the Stargazer and his Captain died so he took the command of that ship. He had to abandon the ship because it was attacked by a ferengi starship. He is a great captain and a bold leader. He is not very sociable, though. Later in the Series he is assimilated by the Borg, a very powerful race.
The first officer, commander William T. Riker, number one, had several times the possibility of getting a command, but he denied them to stay in the Enterprise. Picard chose him to be the commander of the Enterprise because he defied his captain, in his previous assignation. He has been romantically involved with Deanna Troi, the ship's Counselor.
Deanna Troi is from Betazed. She is a telepath and has proved to be very useful for Captain Picard and the crew. She can feel other beings' emotions. She is the daughter of Lwaxana Troi, who appeared in several episodes (Lwaxana Troi was played by Majel Barrett, Gene's second wife. She also played nurse Chapel in the original series).
Lieutenant Worf, son of Mogh was the first klingon in Starfleet. He was born in the klingon homeworld. He went with his parents to the Khitomer outpost. He left a brother in the klingon homeworld, Kurn. They later meet in the series. The Khitomer outpost was attacked by the romulans and many klingons, including his family died there. The federation rescued him and he was sent to earth. He was adopted by two humans there. Later, he entered Starfleet . He has a son, called Alexander. His mother was called K'Ehleyr, and was killed by the Duras family. Alexander lived with his grandparents in earth and later moved to the Enterprise to live with his father. Worf was promoted to security chief, because the previous security chief, Lt. Tasha Yar was killed.
Lieutenant Tasha Yar was a very brave woman. She died in the line of duty in one of the last episodes of the first season. She later appeared in several episodes. She appeared even as a romulan, Sela, Tasha's Daughter.
Lieutenant Commander Data is an android whose main desire is to be human. He hasn't got emotions. Later he installed in himself an emotional chip, in the movie Generations. He was able to turn it off when he wanted. He has got a brother, called Lore, an android who was created by The same person who created Data, Dr. Noonien Soong. He gave Data the emotion ship, but Lore stole it from him. Data later recovered the emotion chip, and waited some time to install it in himself.
Lieutenant Geordi La Forge, the ship's chief engineer, is Data's best friend. He was born blind, and he wore a device called Visor, which allowed him to see. Later in the feature film First Contact, ocular implants replaced his visor. He is a very skillful engineer.
The ship's chief medical officer, Beverly Crusher was married to Jack Crusher. They had a son, Wesley Crusher. Beverly and Jack spent a lot of time with Picard, and he fell in love with her. Then his husband died. Later she went to the Enterprise with her son. At the beginning of the second season she accepted the position as head of Starfleet Medical, but she returned to the Enterprise a year later. In that period of time she was replaced by doctor Katherine Pulaski.
Wesley Crusher, Beverly’s son was a very intelligent (and annoying)
boy who worked in the Enterprise. He left and joined Starfleet but he
later he left the Academy to go with the traveler, a powerful being.
All these people continued the adventures of the original Series crew, to Boldly go where no man has gone before
