Objectives - Class Two

At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

  • Define a selection and a masked area.
  • Use the Marquee tool to create rectangular and oval shaped selections.
  • Use the lasso tool to create an irregular shaped selection.
  • Create a selection with the Wand tool.
  • Fill a selected area.
  • Delete a selected area.
  • Add to and subtract from a selection.
  • Feather a selected area.
  • Understand the concept of a "partially selected pixel."
  • Understand the concept of working with Layers.

Homework Assignments:

  • From your textbook: Chapter 5, Defining Colors. Chapter 9, Filling and stroking. Chapter 11 Selections (and paths, but we won't be doing paths now.)
  • Open an image. Use various selection tools to select portions. Fill the selections with different colors. Paint other selections, using different painting tools and different brushes.
  • Create a new layer, and do your work there. Flatten the image when you're satisfied with the effect.
