page ?, panel ?: "It Happened One Night" was a 1934 film starring Clark Gable as Peter Warne and Claudette Colbert as Ellie Andrews (both won
Academy Awards for their performances). (submitted by Shannon Pat rick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 4: Adramelech is a demon who appears in Milton's "Paradise Lost". He is known as "the Unblinking". (submitted by Shannon Patrick
Sullivan)
page 5, panel 1: Enter Araquel. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 2: Gabriel is another archangel, described in THE BOOKS OF MAGIC(m) #1 as being "lord of the cherubim and of the seraphim".
In the Bible, Gabriel is the angel who appears to Mary to foretell the birth of Christ. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 3: "The seraphim" are the highest-ranking in the hierarchy of angels. Traditionally, it is they who guard the Throne of God.

page 8, panel 4: The artist seems to have erred on the current date. The spring/summer look is entirely inconsistent with both THE BOOKS OF
MAGIC #1 and the date of February 17th later placed on this issue. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page11, panel 3: Auschwitz is the most infamous of the Nazi concentration camps where Jews were murdered en masse in gas chambers.

page ?, panel 7: We now have a date for the death of Tim's mother: February 17th, 1988. (Given the slower pace at which time works in comics, of
course, the year will no doubt be advanced correspondingly in the future.) Mary Elizabeth Hunter was 37 o r 38 when she passed away, so Tim
would have been around seven at the time. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page 13, panel 5: "Magus": magician. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 5: Note that Khara's hand actually passes through the car window. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page 19, panel 2: Moamar Khadaffi is the leader of Libya's ruling dictatorship. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page 20, panel 2: Raum can be identified with Ruam (also called Raim), an Earl of Hell, appears in myth as a man-shaped crow. (submitted by
Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 3: Agares is a Duke of Hell, who traditionally appears as an old man riding a crocodile and carrying a hawk. He can cause
earthquakes; hence the reference here to Mr Wrong having him "shake Tokyo apart". (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page 21, panel 7: Despite being shrunken in size, it seems the picture has retained all of its original mass, and is hence rather heavy. (submitted by
Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page 23, panel 1: It seems Tim avoided Mr Wrong by taking the fork in the path seen in 19/4. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 3: "The Twilight Zone" was a TV show starring Rod Serling which originally ran from 1959 to 1965, and has subsequently seen
many revivals. It was an anthology series about weird, usually supernatural occurrences, and hence someone who f inds themselves in an unusual
predicament is now said to be "in the Twilight Zone". (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page ?, panel 5: Oddly, the path no longers forks to the right. Although this could just be a matter of perspective, it could also suggest that Khara
arranged things so that she could face Mr Wrong alone. (submitted by Shannon Patrick Sullivan)
page 2, panel 5: This is the first appearance of Vuall, who appears later in the Playgrounds story arc. Occult references mention a demon, "Vovall,"
whose sigil is said to aid in conquering the hearts of women. (contributed by Staffan Anderson.)
page 3, panel 4: Adramelech is one of ten archdemons in western myth. (contributed by Staffan Anderson.)
page 4, panel 7: This is the first appearance of Barbatos. The Wordsworth Book of Spells says that Barbatos is "a great count and duke, who
appears when the sun is in Sagittarius with four noble kings and three companies of troops; he gives instructi ons in all the sciences, reveals the
treasure concealed by enchantment, knows the past and the future, reconciles friends and those in power, and is of the Order of the Virtues." It is
mentioned in this issue that Barbatos is a Lord of hell. (contributed by Staffan Anderson.)
page 5, panel 1: Araquel is a member of the order roughly two hundred of angels (led by the angel Semyhaza) called the Grigori who were sent to
watch over the earth. They were lured to stay by the beauty of women. They are mentioned in the Bible, in the book of Enoch (Genesis 6:2): "Sons
of God saw that the daughters of men were fair and they took to wife such of them as they chose." The angels stayed on earth and taught magic.
According to Jewish myth, God sent Michael to punish them by hanging t hem in chains between Heaven and Earth, pointing toward earth.

page 14, panel 5: Tim invents Happy Crisps, which appear later in issue #
page 20, panel 3: Agares is mentioned in the grimoire Lemegeton from the sixteenth century. It is a demon said to ride a cocodile carrying a
goshawk on its closed fist. (contributed by Staffan Anderson.)
