- Panel 1: This issue sort of nods to old-school dectective stories like those written by Raymond Chandler and Dashiel Hammett. "Jack Hammer" is both a pun on the tool and the typical names of characters in those stories, for instance "Sam Spade." (My boyfriend Brock tells me that there is another author of detective stories whose main character's name is Mike Hammer- anyone know? Tell Me.The descriptions are also reminicent of those found in detective stories.
