The episode starts with Xena, burrying her past (in a sense). Shortly thereafter she rescues Gabrielle and all the women of her village from becoming slaves. After her return home, she fights against her old enemy Draco who threatens her home-village.

my comment: A really nice start for the series. When Gabrielle knocks down the soldier in the first battle, Xena looks really surprised. Maybe she admitted Gabrielle's courage.
In this episode we get a great image of what the characters are alike. Xena's past was and still is a mystery to us. It's still obvious that people don't trust her. The only person who really does..is Gabrielle. She seems to be the only person who believes in Xena, an excellent start for a friendship.
