I needed to make something for this dinner/meeting that was going to be on
sunday, but the only thing I had was jello, and the only thing to prepare it
in was a pitcher, so I made some packets of jello and put them in the
pitcher to set. I was slightly worried that it wouldn't turn out, like that
the inside would be all unset and everything, but I lucked out and got the
flu so I was too busy puking my guts out to worry about any sort of pot luck
dinner until monday afternoon, by which time the jello had set nicely and I
could enjoy it at my own leisure. It's strange to me that people don't
generally set jello in pitchers and the like, but I suppose it would take
slightly longer to set, and would be more difficult to portion out. I think
someday I'll try something really creative with the jello, like with jello
fish in a fish bowl full of some appropriate base flavor. With jello it can
be difficult all things considered with the mixing the flavors and the
colors and everything. Sure, orange fish in clear water is the appearance I
would be going for, but where is the clear jello coming from? Or how am I
going to make sure that the orange goes well with it? Even more
problematical, who is going to eat such a thing? No, this jello thing would
really have to be a permanent installation piece. For people to really have
a desire to eat jello, it has to be in inch to inch and a half cubes and has
to be falling out of a wine glass or otherwise agitated to show the wiggling
action. But jello is really good for you when you have the flu.
