This egg thing was somewhat confusing to me. How big are these eggs? As we all know, humans are born with brains (and heads) which still have lots of growing to do, which is why we can't do much for a year or so; this being necessary so that the head can pass through those unmentionable portions of a woman's anatomy at birth, and this is one way in which we differ from most other forms of life. I haven't read these books in a long time, but was it ever explained how this egg system worked, and/or how big they were, and/or how big the guys and the chicks were when they hatched, and/or how "old"?
I like multi-legged creatures. However, the total dominance of four-limbed creatures on earth, with respect to larger animals and birds, certainly weighs against the credibility of an evolutionary system in which creatures with more limbs would be prevalent or common. It's almost impossible to do different things with two limbs at the same time, let alone four, even when your head grows quite a bit after you are born, rather than sitting inside some egg. I like to write about multi-limbed creatures, too, but the evidence on our own planet certainly seems to contradict such a pattern for larger and more highly evolved creatures. Are they right-handsded when they play ball, or what?
