GAMEMASTER INFO FOR
INSURANCE TRIPLE CROSS

As this adventure starts, the character is sitting in a sleazy bar looking for biz. He had tried to get out of shadowrunning, but now economic necessity is driving him back. He doesn't even have enough money for the upcoming rent on his doss--and he lives in a coffin hotel. He's also going to need money very soon to support his habit for synthetic amphetamines.

Eventually his old fixer takes notice of him and offers him a job. The fixer is a guy named Benny, a mid-level Mafia lieutenant who runs prostitution, drugs, and contract work (shadowruns) for the neighborhood in which the decker operates, and who just happens to own the sleazy bar in which they are sitting. Benny's as slimy as they come, but if you want biz in this part of town, he's the only man to see. Benny is followed everywhere by two enormous bodyguards, and by an entourage of joygirls.

The job Benny offers the decker is supposed to be a simple datasteal. The pay isn't great, but in his condition the decker can't expect to get the best jobs. Benny tells the decker that the meet is set for midnight in a parking garage under a downtown office building.

At the meet, the decker is greeted by a very nervous-looking Mr. and Ms. Johnson. The two Johnsons explain that what they want are copies of certain files from the computer system of a local consulting firm called Kilpatrick Gudeman Baker. The Johnsons are adamant that the decker copy the files in such a way that the firm will have no knowledge that they have been compromised. The files in question will be anything that has anything to do with any of the following companies: Brooks Development Group, DiNunzio Management Corporation, Brooks DiNunzio Property Management, Inc., Flannery-Cabrizi, Bower & Dunn, George Brooks & Associates, or DiNunzio & DiNunzio, Inc. All of these names should appear in the same few documents, according to the Johnsons.

When the decker goes in to Kilpatrick Gudeman Baker's system, he finds that he is not alone. There is another decker here--using a feather as an icon. If the decker pursues the feather, the feather will make every effort to exit the system before the decker can obtain any knowledge. The presence of another decker in this system raises serious problems. For one, the decker was spotted in the system by someone. For another, that someone could have already stolen the files the decker is seeking. Luckily, the decker manages to obtain the files in question without further incident.

That's when things really start to get hairy. In the time between the run and the drop, he notices that his former associates start to distance themselves from him. When he runs into one of Benny's joygirls, she tries very hard to get him to accept a free, special amphetamine fix she says Benny told her to give him. The decker finds out, either from watching the joygirl take one or from taking one himself, that the drugs are poisoned. Now it looks as though Benny is trying to kill him. If he returns to his coffin hotel, there's a goon waiting there who demands the files and who will try to kill him if he refuses.

Now he's really stuck. He has to go to the meet with Mr. and Ms. Johnson to get paid, and he really, really needs the money. If he tries to stiff Benny out of his cut of the payoff, then Benny will have even more reason to hunt him down and want him dead. But it certainly appears that Benny's already trying to kill him. What's a decker to do?

To make matters still worse, when he goes to the meet with the Johnsons he discovers that the files he stole have already been tampered with. I guess now we know what the feather was up to. Oddly, Johnson pays the decker anyway, but it seems that the tampering scares the Johnsons more than anyone. They roar off into the night, nearly in a state of panic.

If the decker tries to avoid Benny, then very soon two of Benny's joeboys catch up with him and escort him to Benny. They only rough him up a little. When he arrives at Benny's place, either under his own power or with the joeboys' help, he finds himself confronted by Benny, who will seem irate if the decker did not give the files to the goon at his apartment and pleased if he did, as well as several Mafiosi. It seems the goon worked for the capo in Kansas City, whose interest in this matter conflicted with, and took precedence over, that of the capo of Indianapolis. The "feather" decker worked for the Kansas City capo and tampered with the file on his orders. The goon was sent to get the file before it went to Johnson and made Johnson aware of the tampering prematurely. The attempt on the decker's life was made by the KC capo, in a further attempt to keep the file out of Johnson's hands. Benny did not know the drugs were poisoned.

The KC capo has already kidnapped Mr. and Ms. Johnson, and proceeds to try to beat the file out of them right there in Benny's place. They claim they don't have it and that they've already uploaded it to their company's host. This enfuriates the KC capo so much that he reveals his true motive, which is a little more than just tampering with this file. When he plays his true hand, then everyone else begins to play his, and things get very interesting indeed.....
