The Chilkit

The Chilkit are descendants of crusteceans. They live on the shores and shallow seas of their homeworld, Chilken Prime, which is in the Chilken System. The Chilkit stand about 2.5 meters tall, supporting their massive claws, exoskeletons, and tail on six sturdy legs, two of which form enlongated pinchers, leaving the remaining for to support their massive frames.

Chilkit cities are located in inter-tidal or coastal zones. Some are even permanently underwater. Their primary city was located in an intertidal zone. Instead of streets, canals weave their way through the cities. Usually, Chilkit travel on foot across the bottom of these canals.

During their very early years, fierce tribal combat propelled them forward technologically at tremendous speed in an effor to get an edge on all the other tribes. The oceans and shores became prime land for wars to break out.

When the Chilkit had almost killed their mother planet, they discovered space flight and stumbled upon their solar system neighbors, the Klarr. Industry was relocated to the Klarr's homeworld in an effort to keep Chilken Prime pristine.

After the fall of the Chilkit Coalition and the subsequent rise of the Fab'Rini Federation, the Chilkit collapsed. Their society, so used to being totally in control, was for the first time in millenia defenseless. The homeworld was again divided among nations, which further split into rival tribes and family dynasties.

Within a few months, the Chilkit had ceased using most of their technology and had abandoned most of their cities. Their population levels declined rapidly in a return to the old hunter/gatherer lifestyle. The reverting back to the Stone Age has left scholars baffled. Meanwhile, Chilken Prime remains a hotbed of war and chaos as the once-mighty over-lords of the Coalition degrade into barbarism and violence.

The last known population figures for Chilken Prime was up to more than 14 billion on that single planet. However, it is now estimated from anywhere between a few hundred million to 2 billion. The planet was abandoned and left to go to seed by Fab'Rini officials.
