disaster

Sometime in March, 1993:

    GOOD STUFF.

A great departure from the usual form of story. I was both entertained and gripped.

All of the threads are good. In order, I'd say the best are:

  1. The Bridge.
  2. Riker And Data.
  3. The Captain and the kids.
  4. Worf in Ten-Forward.
  5. Geordi and Beverly.

The Four characters I most enjoyed were:

  1. O'Brien.
  2. Ro.
  3. Riker.
  4. Data.

It is interesting to note how Jean-Luc coped with his problem. He is awkward around children, so he turned the kids into a crew. Defined them in a way that made his comfortable. Masterful!

"Disaster" is worth watching and worth re-watching. It's good entertainment and only a couple of the early scenes aren't interesting.

This is a gritty dark episode. With dark sets and lots of crawling around.

It is a balanced episode, perhaps the most balanced ever, in that everyone gets something interesting and important to do. Everyone overcomes a problem. Everyone.

My only gripe is that Worf comes over as a bit of a twit. At times.

    Best Line: "I am pushing!"

This is an immensely enjoyable outing.

31st October, 1993:

    ONE OF THE ALL-TIME BEST.

Everyone gets equal time, and everyone gets to be heroic.

Heroic Characters:

Troi

Picard

O'Brien

Ro

Riker

Data

Geordi

Beverly

Keiko

Worf

Manisa

Mandel

Jay

Patterson

Troi is especially impressive: unsure of what's going on, but still retaining command.

O'Brien is also great, standing by her. Helping her.

Picard impressed me with the way he turned a disadvantage into an advantage. He avoids kids at all costs. Fact is: he can't deal with them. But he can control a crew. So he takes a bunch of children, and he makes a crew.

Worf was hilarious. So was Keiko.

The sets in this one are dark, and I like the appearance of the episode a lot.

Acting: Both Jonathan Frakes and Michelle Forbes impressed me a lot. A lot.

    Weakest Scene: Geordi singing.

FX: The FX of the lift falling are great.

The ending is also great. And I loved the humour between Troi and Riker.

This is a story that illustrates what an appealing ensemble we truly have in this show. In fact, the only ones missing from the episode are: Guinan, Wesley, Pulaski and Barclay!

It's a fun episode to watch. A chance to sit back and witness an adventure.

GRADE: A+
