Colonesti

Me and my Mum went on a visit to the village where she was born so many years ago ;-) It's about 130km (80 miles) west of Bucharest, but about 160km (100 miles) by road. Located in the county of Olt, on the Getaen platform (plateau). We only stayed in Colonesti one day, but it was a full one. We left Bucharest in the morning, and with my mum's driving we got there in one hour. Then the same when we went back home late at night.

We saw some of my mom's (and mine I suppose) family, met people and generally being social. I met a nice girl there by the name of Mirela, and her family where we were offered dinner. The photos of Mirela don't do her justice, she is much nicer in real life. I like her and I'm pretty sure she likes me. I got her email address, and next time I go there I think I'll see her again. :-D

Everywhere we went we were offered dinner and we must have eaten 6 times that day just in Colonesti. When we got back to Bucharest I bought a Big Mac to top it all off from an inconspicuous all-nighter drive-through.

Remember to hover the mouse cursor over the photo for a description.
The main street - traffic jam: Mum in her right hand drive BMW, and evil man-eating gees everywhere! Total gridlock. The local council is gradually paving all the roads in the village.
The local river and more evil gees (these aren't man-eating, they only eat women. Mwuhahahhahaha!). The river is very low since it's Summer (note the brooks rise several meters). In the other seasons it's quite large and dangerous especially in the spring due to snowmelt, as it starts off in the mountains, about 30km away.
Mirela in her garden. She lives mostly at college in the nearest city, Pitesti.
Left to right: Mum's aunty-in-law, Mirela's dad, Mirela, her mum, sister, and on the far right, my mum. By the way my mum is a Liberal, hehehe.
Mirela's well. Its 1 m in diameter, 9 m deep & a further 6 m underwater. Why use wells? Because it's free mineral water, and it's good for you! Tastes nice too, and fresh. Better than any bottled water that I've ever had.
