Version 5: Poetry

"Faults"

You failed.
Face the pale lights,
Shining down on your face,
Know your eyes are wide in terror.
They know all you do,
Maybe even more.
They know his dark secret,
The one he never told.

You failed miserably.
You saw what happened after,
Their faces, his look,
Drilling, boring a hole into your soul.
It was so important to you,
So why'd you let it slip?

You failed with bottom marks.
They're crowding now,
Their voices high in excitment,
Ready to make the kill,
To strangle you with insults.
You deserve it, and you know it.
It was your fault.
All your fault.
Like the dark secrets,
Still buried in your heart,
Too scared to tell him,
He'll think less of you.

You failed in tears.
They're useless, banal.
You want attention. What you crave.
Like some exotic food,
You want to be in the light,
Yet, it burns you, blistering your skin.
It's poison, yet you desire it.
You conform to them,
You were never unique.

You failed to be yourself.

And it's your fault.
