Bela Lugosi (from the town of Lugos, Hungary; his real name was
Bela Ferenc Dezso Blasko; 10/20/1882 - 8/16/1956),
bowled over the world as the romantic creature 'Dracula,' but
turned down the part of 'Frankenstein.' Always viewing himself
as the leading man-type, this limited him for the next decades.
Career failing in the 1950's he briefly returned to the limelight
in a series of ultra-horrible Ed Wood Jr. films, including 'Plan 9
From Outer Space' (filmed after his death). Bela was buried in his
Dracula cape. The Dracula signet ring is currently kept by Forest
J. (Famous Monsters of Filmland) Ackerman.
