Jack Fukazawa is a hard-nosed, hard-biting street cop. He grew up in Tokyo, on the streets. His father was of “mixed blood”—he was half Scottish, a “legacy” of Jack’s grandmother’s illicit liason with an Occupation Forces trooper. Shame burns hard in Asian society; both his parents were heavily ostracized, virtual burakumin, for the accident of his father’s birth. Jack decided on his eighteenth birthday that he needed to get out, and get out right then… He hopped aboard a steamer ship, and made his way to America. As a final tweak to the island of his birth, he did some digging, and managed to discover the clan tartan of his illegitimate grandfather, and claimed it with pride. He still has the kilt, even. Of course, all this changed when Jack and his partner, along with two other officers, interrupted a convenience-store robbery. Jack had stepped wide going around a counter; the others were moving in tight. So he was the first one to see the thug bring up the lethal semi-auto and squeeze the trigger, pointing it straight at the other three cops. No thought, no decision, simply action—-Jack leapt into the path of the bullets, taking nine shots to the chest. He died on the way to the hospital, but his life has been assumed by the General—-the Chu-ih-yu Hsien formerly known as Yang Pengtianyi. The General has returned with a newfound appreciation for the value of human life; it remains to be seen if this will be a help or a hindrance once he resumes his duties. ![]() He has developed one other odd trait, possibly the most disconcerting for his former allies and friends; he now plays the bagpipes. For most residents of Little Asia, who have had little [if any] contact with this particular instrument, the culture-shock can border on the extreme....
