In 1937 an alien race known as the Briori abducted over three-hundred
humans from Earth and transported them to this planet, where they were
to be used as slave labor. At some point the human slaves revolted and
drove the Briori away. Using the remaining weapons and technology left
behind, the humans started their own settlements. A group of eight humans
stored in cryo-stasis by the Briori before the revolt were thought to be
dead and eventually became venerated by the former slaves, who treated
them as sacred monuments and referred to them as the "37's." By 2371 the
humans numbered over one-hundred thousand and lived in three large cities
in the planet's northern hemisphere.
In 2371 USS Voyager discovered the planet after tracking an SOS signal
that was being emitted by a plane that had been owned by Amelia Earhart,
who was one of those abducted by the Briori and who was still in cryo-stasis.
The plane's original state had been carefully maintained over the centuries.
Because of the presence of trinimbic interference in the atmosphere, Voyager
was forced to land in order to investigate the source of the SOS. After
reviving the 37's and learning of the Briori and the human cities, Voyager's
crew were offered the chance of staying behind on the planet to start a
new life. All of Voyager's crew remained committed to returning to Earth,
however, and Voyager left the plant and resumed course for the Alpha Quadrant
