In 2373 two officers from USS Voyager, Lieutenant Paris and Ensign Kim, were arrested and convicted for the bombing of the Laktivia Recreational Facility and the death of 47 patrollers. Paris and Kim, who had been on shore leave on the planet, were promptly sentenced to life imprisonment at a maximum security prison located in space near Akritiri. Akritirian officials took three days before informing Voyager of the fate of her officers, who were later rescued from the prison by Voyager after those responsible for the bombing, Akritirians associated with the Open Sky terrorist organization, revealed the location of the prison in a bargain to save themselves from imprisonment.
