About Myself
As the heading indicates, this page contains a bit of information about myself, my family and my friends. Click on the images to get larger versions of the pictures.
So, this is me. Allow me to tell you a few things about myself. My name is Solfrid Opem, and I was born a warm summer's day in the year of the Dragon, 1976. As you can see, I enjoy playing pool. I'm crap at it, but still; it's great fun!
This is where I spent the first 16 years of my life. It's a tiny, tiny place in Norway, called Skatval. I think we are about 2500 inhabitants there. Skatval is located in the county (?) of Stjørdal, about 40 kilometres north of Trondheim, the 3rd biggest town in Norway. Obviously, Skatval is not the most interesting place to live, all we have got is a grocery store, a post office...oh no, that's right. We don't have a post office anymore cause those b...... closed it down. Anyway, you get the picture, don't you?
This is my 29 year old sister, Anne Gunn. And sitting on her lap is my wee nephew, Eskil, who was born on the 29th of August 1999. When she is not looking after Eskil and his brother Even, she works at various kindergardens.
And here I am again, with Even and Eskil. As you probably understand, I am a very proud aunt.
This is my lovely, yet vicious, "little" cat, Derrick (named after my superhero, Stephan Derrick, off course). He was born in April 1999, and his hobbies, except for making aquaintances with other cats, are sleeping, EATING, and biting me.
And this is my other nephew, Even (23rd February, 1996) and I together with my brother, Rune. Rune is 27 years old, and he runs a lot (he's a long distance runner, a pretty good one too).
In August 1992, I moved to Levanger together with my best friend, Kjersti, who you can see together with her son, Martin (20.August 1996) in the picture. We went to high school at Levanger vgs, where we studied media for a great part of the time. It took us 2 years to realise that we couldn't live together because of the large amount of alcohol we consumed, and the very small amount of studying we did. So I stayed for one year in the basement of a classmates' house, and my final year, I lived together with Vibeke.
Vibeke is the girl wearing green trousers in the picture, and we had a fantastic year together (although we probably made Frank, our flat mate's life a hell). Next to Vibeke is Ann Christin, who is also a good friend of mine.
When we graduate from high school in Norway, we have this huge celebration lasting for about 2 weeks. We dress up in the funny kind of clothes that you can see in the picture, drink a lot, do loads of crazy things, under the name of "russ". I was "Russ-96", and it was great fun!
Here's a picture of one of my best friends from high school, who is still among my best friends, Mona (Super-MoRi!), together with her boyfriend, Steinar. They're such a cute couple, aren't they??
These are a few of the crazy poeple who used to be in my class at high school, at a reunion in December, 1999; Jens, Rune, Håkon, Torbjørn, Marius, Ingrid, Kjersti, and I.
When I graduated from school, I decided it was about time to broaden my horizons. Therefore, I came to Edinburgh, Scotland, where I studied Communication at Queen Margaret University College. Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. In addition to that, Scots are friendly people, and the night life here ain't bad either. You had to put up with a lot of crap weather though, but it was definately worth it!
The funny creatures in this picture are my lovely flatmates from my first year in Edinburgh, Christina, Noel, and Erica. They were all really nice flatmates, and I do miss my first year at college a bit cause we had a lot of fun together.
This is Goeril...Say no more. Goeril was one of my flatmates in Edinburgh, and...what can I say??? She is Super-Goeril (TATATAAA!). And she contributed largely to making my time as a student a very happy one! But unfortunatley, it aløl has to come to an end. I graduated in July 2000, after 4 very interesting and entertaining years in Edinburgh. Underneath are a few pics of some of the people I had the honour of getting to know while I lived i Edinburgh.
From left to right: Gøril, I, Kathrine, and Kjetil; Jan; Gøril, Christina,Hildegunn, Stine, and Kirsti; Gøril, Gro, Delphine, and Erica; Gøril, Matt, I, and Stuart; Tony and Darren; Nathalie, Gøril, and Gro
After I graduated, I moved to Abelvær together with Gøril, to slay salmon. Why? We thought it would be a great way to earn enough money to be able3 to travel around the world for a year. But things don't always end up the way you plan it, do they..? I'm crap at saving money, the money disappears from my account as soon as they get there. And then I met Rune, and I could never spend a whole year away from him anyway. So I stayed on in Abelvær for 15 months instead. And I really enjoyed that time as well. Abelvær is a beautiful place with lots of nice people.
But one day I realised it was about time to move on. So I packed all my stuff and went to Trondheim, where I moved in with Rune. I was hoping to get a job within tv, preferrably as a camera operator, or as a photographer, as media is one of my main interests. But it's not all that easy, so I currently work for Manpower, at NetCom's customer service dept. An okay job, but not exactly my dream job.
As you've probably already noticed, I also like cows. No, I LOVE cows. Why? Well, cows are, in my opinion, among the most beautiful animals in the world; look into their big, brown eyes, and you can read: "Give me a hug, I'm your friend".
A cow is one of the most trustworthy animals you can find. If they weren't so big, I'm sure everyone would keep them as pets. Imagine sitting in your comfy chair watching tv, with a Highland Cow on you lap (as you know, they've even got long, fluffy fur).
Furthermore, they have a strong, graceful body, you can see their beauty in every muscle (please, don't get me wrong; I'm not some kind of sick pervert who look upon cows as sexual objects...). In fact, cows are very complex animals, who come in all shapes and colours (at least they do in my little world). And these are a few of the reasons why I also collect cows. I don't collect real cows though, just lots of different "cow things", like fluffy cows, candle holders, glasses, bottles, pictures, soap holders, pillow cases, pencil cases...you name it. It has become an obsession, I admit that, but it's a controlled obsession!
Finally, I do like various kinds of sports. I enjoy swimming, aerobics, and I also like skiing in the winter. When it comes to watching sports, I enjoy almost all kinds of sports, particularly football and various winter sports. When I want to relax, I like to read, listen to music, watch a good film, or write poetry. Well, I suppose that's about it... Oh, not to forget: I love socialising with my friends, both when I'm in Edinburgh and in Norway (Have a look at my Party Pictures
Overall, I consider myself a reasonably nice person, and a serious personality test showed that I am just
