#1 THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The Legend of Zelda has been one of the best game series to grace console gaming ever since the days of the 8-bit NES. The combination of fast reflexes, strategy, and exploration has raised the Zelda avobe the rest. This strong heritage is continued and even improved upon in the newest version of an already great series! The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time takes successful aspects of the previous installments of the game and makes improvements and even added new features to make the best game possible! They have succeeded! Zelda64 is the best game on the N64 at this time IMHO. The N64's graphic capability is finally tapped into giving the player a large, believable world to interact with and admire. If you have any appreciation for the graphics of games, just wait until you've watched the sun rise over Lake Hylia or jumped off of the bridge over Gerudo Valley. It is obvious that the game designers have put their hearts and souls into the making of this game. The fighting in Zelda64 is a treat to accomplish. With the feature of Z-Targeting, it really revolutionizes the concept of fighting in a 3D game! This game capitalizes on exploration, as well. You'll be hard pressed to find every single gold skulltula hidden throughout the game! However, if I can have one big gripe about this game, it's that a lot of the secrets are not that great. You may find yourself bombing the ground and accidently reveal a hidden cave! "Cool!" you think...until you drop inside and find a chest with a measly 5 rupees inside or a bomb refill! The story, although not that original (You are trying to save Princess Zelda from Ganon... again!) it still has that ability to draw you in and never let go! And if you feel like it, there are numerous mini-quests and mini-games in which to participate! You may be surprised at what you will receive in reward for completing a mini-quest. Another unique aspect of this latest installment of Zelda, is bringing the ocarina to the forefront of the game's storyline. I'm sure you all remember having to dig around to find the flute in A Link to the Past. That flute (now called the Ocarina) does many things as well as a handy warping device. The Ocarina proves your royal connections, to drying up a waterfall, to calling your horse, Epona! I could write for pages more on all of the wonderful aspects of this game, but I believe that what I've already written should have any true RPG fan drooling if they hadn't played this game already! I HIGHLY reccomend The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! |
