I believe that our school
is one big happy family and our classroom is a little family within
that big family. Therefore, I instruct my students to treat each
other like their brother or sister. If a child already has a sibling
at home, he or she may say, "Well my sister is mean to me and she hits
me sometimes". I simply say, "Please don't treat your classmates
that way. We all know that this is not the way to treat people, so
let's not do that". Most of the time once I say that, then we have
a discussion about kindness and what to do when someone does mistreat you:
who to tell, etc. With the integration of this philosophy, classroom
rules, and the use of my behavior management system, our classroom environment
can run smoothly.
I feel that this philosophy
and good parenting has helped my classes to become better citizens for
the future and will continue to do so.
