Dean was always interested in houses. When Dean's family visited his grandparents in Plymouth, NC. Dean and the Webmaster would draw pictures and visit the studio of Frith Winslow, a local artist. Dean would draw houses of different designs. Becoming an architect fulfilled his childhood drean. Dean's designs and houses that he designed have been featured in 'Southern Living'.

Dean graduated from Clemson University. He is a member of the University Club and a major donor.

Maxine is an elementary school teacher.

Dean and Maxine's children are:
1. Lemuel who studies forestry and wants to be a forest ranger, and
2. John Jennings (about 1968) who studied marine biology. Jennings has a son, Cody.
