When I first stumbled across the DC Futures site earlier this year, Batman: DCF was the first title I tried out. I really wasn't expecting much, having been sorely disappointed by most other comic book fanfics that I'd read up to that point. In fact, I was quite convinced that most people wrote fanfics for the sole purpose of allowing Rogue and Gambit to have sex with each other. Imagine my surprise when I got through the first three issues of Erik's Batman, the only issues then available, and discovered that it was not only worth reading but a very new and enjoyable take on a great character.
To be honest, I'm one of those people who's always liked Dick Grayson better than Bruce Wayne. Why? Because Dick Grayson has gone through lots of character development, whereas Bruce Wayne is pretty much the same as when he started, aside from a few turning points. And that's what I like about Tim Drake. Will he always be a wise-cracking vigilante with no detective skills? I think not. And I'm sure Erik will take Tim in directions that none of his readers would predict.
As far as I'm concerned, Batman: DCF will always be one of the rocks upon which the foundation of the DCF is built. It's what first drew me in, and to some degree, it's part of what keeps me going. I'm sure the same can be said for most of you, but please don't let Erik know that. It just might go to his head, and the staff would appreciate it if you didn't let that happen. When it does, he tends to start killing us off in his titles.
