For a very long time, The X-Files was far and away the undisputed king of fandoms. A combination of compelling characters, gripping storylines, and a touch of the supernatural made this a show for everyone but the very young, and while it may not be as strong as it used to be, the staggering range and quantity of fanfic "out there" still offer a powerful testimony to the show's enduring popularity.
